Step-by-step pressure check

- Press the gauge firmly onto the valve stem. You may hear a brief hiss — that is air escaping during improper seating; seat firmly and quickly.

Reading your TPMS warning light
The TPMS icon looks like a flat tire cross-section with an exclamation mark. When it illuminates:
- The light came on immediately after inflating: the sensor may need time to reset after adding air
- The light came on during a cold morning: likely temperature-related pressure drop — check and inflate
- The light stays on after inflating to correct pressure: sensor may need reset (drive at 50+ mph for a few minutes) or there may be a slow leak
The TPMS light does not tell you which tire is low unless your system displays individual readings.
Common mistakes
Checking after driving. Hot tires read 4–8 PSI higher than cold. If you check after highway driving and the reading looks fine, you may actually be underinflated.
Using the tire sidewall PSI. The sidewall says MAX PSI — inflating to that number causes the center tread to wear faster and significantly reduces ride comfort and handling.
Ignoring the spare. Spare tires are checked less frequently and often found critically low when needed. Many compact spares require 60 PSI.
