A fire-rated safe is tested to keep its interior below a specified temperature for a specified duration in a standardised fire. Both parts of that matter, and the temperature threshold differs enormously depending on what the safe is rated to protect.

The humidity point matters and gets overlooked. Fire safes work partly by releasing moisture from insulation as they heat, which keeps the interior cool and raises humidity substantially. That is fine for paper and destructive for electronics — which is why a media-rated safe requires a different construction rather than just a lower temperature threshold.

Duration and burglary are separate

What belongs inside
Documents that are irreplaceable or awkward to replace but occasionally needed: passports, birth certificates, property documents, insurance policies, advance directives.
